Intro

My name is Daniyaal Anawar. In the summer of 2024, I achieved 83**% (an A*)** in OCR A Level History:

• Unit 1: Britain 1930–1997 – 40/50 (80%)

  ↳ 25/30 & 15/20

• Unit 2: African Kingdoms – 29/30 (97%)

  ↳ 9/10 & 20/20

• Unit 3: British Empire – 58/80 (73%)

  ↳ 28/30, 15/25 & 15/25

• NEA: Churchill’s Leadership – 39/40 (98%)

  ↳ Shoutout to my teachers, the GOATs.

I received all of my scripts back, so I somewhat know what my examiners liked.

Here’s exactly how I did it!

1) Understanding

The main resources I used for understanding were:

• Revision Guides
• Lesson Slides
  • Not notes! I didn’t make high quality notes during lessons. I found that listening to my teachers was most effective, since I could absorb information better.
• YouTube (if available)
  • There weren’t many videos for my modules, though.
  • For African Kingdoms, I made my own video!
• OCR E-Book
  • Only because African Kingdoms lacked other resources.
• ChatGPT
  • Genuinely a brilliant resource. Information sometimes requires fact-checking but great for timelines and explaining events.
• Textbooks
  • A last resort as they were rather dense, but used them occasionally.

2) Memorisation

I love Anki, a digital flashcard app available on all devices.

• I used the resources above (mainly the revision guides) to make Q&A flashcards covering the entire spec (~200 per module).
